Applications are being accepted from interested international students for the York World Scholars (YWS) Program.
ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship is meant for students who want to learn and advance in their education and improve their career opportunities.
The scholarship program seeks to attract highly talented students who have great written and oral communication skills and will like to enroll for a double major which means a student will combine two programs to obtain degree.
Basically the scholarship is looking for motivated students who seek the chance to fulfill their academic dreams, make a change in the world and strive to achieve their career objectives.
It is worth noting that this is the first year of the program and 50 scholarships will be awarded to qualified students. The scholarship comes with the following benefits:
The best three York World Scholars will be given a tuition waiver up to the amount of $20,000
Students with a grade point average (GPA) of 80% or more will be eligible for scholarship up to $2500
Successful students will have professors mentor them throughout the duration of the program which is for four years
In the final year, York World Scholars will take part in a World Scholars seminar where they will be shown opportunities for practical learning or research
When applying for the scholarship, candidates will immediately be considered for the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies International Student Entrance Scholarship. Candidates who are eligible with A GPA between 90% and 94.9% will get $2,000 while candidates with a GPA of 95% or more will get $3000.
International students are able to work on and off the school campus
FIELD OF STUDY
A double major comprises a bachelor’s degree with two full undergraduate courses which with proper planning and determination can be completed in the same time as a single major without spending more money
For the scholarship the following double major combinations are available
Sociology/Geography and Urban Studies
International Development Studies and Geography
Cognitive Science and Information Technology
English and Professional Writing
Human Rights & Equity Studies and Anthropology
History and Political Science
Economics and Global Political Studies
Finance and Business Economics
ELIGIBILITY
Scholarship will be awarded based on applicant’s recent grade point and average written statements of interest as well as other requirements
HOW TO APPLY
Application is done by first of all applying through the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC) for students interested in applying to other Ontario Universities) or for students interested in applying to York they can use York online application
Secondly after submitting the OUAC application, two statements of interest are needed
Statement of 400 words stating the double major combination you have chosen and why.
Statement of 200 words explaining where you hope to be the next five years.
