Applications are been accepted from students of developing countries for the VLIR-UOS scholarships offered at a Flemish university or university college in Belgium for training and masters programs.
ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
The program was set up and created to award scholarships to applicants from 54 developing eligible countries from Latin America, Asia and Africa to enroll for the 15 masters and 7 training programmes available.
The scholarship will be awarded for the duration of the programmes. The scholarship covers the following costs:
Training programmes
Tuition fees
Accommodation
Travel fees
Insurance
Daily allowance of 32 Euros
Master programmes
Tuition fees
Monthly accommodation allowance of 375 Euros
Monthly allowance of 860 Euros
Travel fees
Insurance
Family allowance (62 Euros is given to each dependant person every month)
The programmes are taught in English at Flemish university or University College in Belgium
FIELD OF STUDY
Scholarships are awarded in the following courses: Training programmes: Road safety in Low and Middle-Income Countries: Challenges and Strategies for Improvement and AudioVisual Learning Materials – Management, Production and Activities (AVLM), Technology for Integrated Water Management, Food Safety, Quality Assurance Systems and Risk Analysis, Management of Electronic Information and Digital Libraries, Human Rights for Development
Master programmes: Biostatistics, Environmental Sanitation, Nematology, Food Technology, Molecular Biology, Water Resources Engineering and Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management, Development Evaluation and Management., Globalisation and Development, Governance and Development, Human Settlements, Two-year Master programmes: Nutrition and Rural Development, main subject: Human Nutrition, Physical Land Resources, Aquaculture, Biology – Specialisation Human Ecology
ELIGIBILITY
Should be a citizen or resident of one of the 54 eligible developing countries
Should not be more than 45 years old for a training Programme
Should not be more than 40 years old for a master programme
Fluency in English language
Good academic background
Should not have been admitted in a Belgian university for a master program
Should not have worked in the private sector as applicants from the government sector, research and education institutes, NGO’s are preferred
For those interested in the training programmes, they should have the relevant professional experience
Applicants are selected based on the following criteria
Motivation: Applicants should be willing and motivated to participate in the programmes
Experienced professional: Experience from the government sector, research and education institutes, NGO’s are preferred
Past scholarships: For training programmes, applicants past studies and scholarship will be considered while for master programmes priority will be given to applicants who have not got a scholarship before
Gender: Consideration is given to females in situations where there two equally qualified candidates
Consideration is given to applicants who are disadvantaged or in the minority especially if they show leadership qualities
About 50% of the programme’s scholarships are awarded to candidates from Sub-Saharan Africa, provided there is enough qualified applicants from this region
