Indian colleges and institutes are globally recognised. This is what makes them worth it when it comes to pursuing higher degree and/or diploma courses. India’s educational system is as encompassing and as diverse as its history. The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Bangalore and the Centre for International Co-operation in Science(CICS) in Chennai jointly instituted the JNCASR-CICS Fellowships programme to encourage mobility of scientists from developing countries. The Fellowship covers short-term research, training or participatory research work in physical, chemical or biological sciences in reputed scientific institutions in India including JNCASR.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) is a multidisciplinary research institute. It was established by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, and is located in Jakkur, Bangalore, India. Its mandate is to pursue and promote scientific research and training at the frontiers of science and engineering.
The Centre for International Co-operation in Science or CICS is mandated to promote science- and technology-related (ST) activities for the mutual benefit of the scientists of developing countries. It was established in May 2005, and was formerly known as CCSTDS.
Applicant must be a scientist, teacher or a research scholar affiliated to a scientific or academic institution in a developing country in Asia (other than India), Africa, Latin America and Arab region.
Applicants below 45 years of age are eligible to apply.
All conditions being satisfied, applicants meeting the following criteria will be given preference over others.
- Applicants who have proven academic excellence
- Innovation and novelty in the proposed research work
- Relevance of training to the parent institution and the home country as endorsed by the recommending authority

Fields of study
Short-term research, training or participatory research work in all areas of physical, chemical, and biological sciences including engineering, medicine and allied sciences.
Number of awards
About 10 fellowships are provided annually
The duration of the fellowship is for 3 months and it is obligatory on awardees to spend this full period utilizing the Fellowship to derive maximum benefit.
The fellowship covers:
- international return air fare by the shortest route by economy class from the place of work of the candidate at his/her country to the host institution in India,
- boarding, lodging (for the individual only) at the affiliated institution and other subsistence expenses in the form of an adequate allowance in Indian currency.
Method of Application
Applicant (other than Indian) possessing Doctorate or Master’s Degree in Science or equivalent degree in Engineering/ Medicine and allied disciplines, below 45 years of age affiliated to a scientific or academic institution in a developing country (Other than India) can apply.
To apply, download and submit the prescribed Application Form before the annual deadline. You must submit this form with the complete list of requested enclosures (includes (a). detailed CV containing date of birth & age, applicant’s research interest and experience, publications (only those in referred journals), present position, scientific affiliations, awards and scholarships etc; (b). detailed write-up describing the proposed research work; (c). 2 passport size photographs; (d). copy of degree certificate for highest qualification; and (e). letter of consent from Parent Institution)

Selected candidates must obtain permission/leave from their parent institutions. And they must obtain Indian visa for the proposed period of work upon advice from CICS.
