China is an Asian country located in Eastern Asia. It borders countries like India, Russia, North Korea, Bhutan, Vietnam, Laos, Mongolia, Pakistan etc. A lot of students choose this beautiful country as their study destination because of its cheap and affordable high standard education. Apart from this, China is ranked in top 10 of countries with advanced technology. What this means is that as a student, you will have the opportunity of studying with the latest technology. In today’s article we will be considering studying in China, tuition fees, cost of living, how to apply for studies and scholarships etc.
Tuition fees
If you don’t have much money to pay for the high tuition fees in UK, US, Australia and some European countries, I will advice you consider studying in China. Tuition fees in Chinese universities are low and affordable. These fees usually range from $2000 to $4000 depending on study program.
The cost of living in China is equally low and affordable. A monthly budget of $350 to $500 can take care of feeding, accommodation, transportation, books etc. This amount varies depending on the city and the spending habit of the student.
Scholarships
There are lots of scholarships available for students who wish to study in China. The Chinese government has pledged around $238 million for the Chinese Government Scholarship Program in the 2012-13 academic year alone. This program is specifically structured to provide full and partial scholarships for internationals who wish to study in China. More than 25,000 students benefitted from this scheme in 2011 and the Chinese government is working on increasing this number.
Work and study
It’s the dream of many students to do part time jobs while studying abroad. But unfortunately in China, international students are forbidden to be employed, and work-study opportunity is relatively small. So self-financed international students should make the financial preparation before arriving in China.
Language
The official language of China is Mandarin, or Putonghua. It’s spoken throughout the country, although most Chinese people also speak a local dialect. If you don’t speak Chinese well it can be a bit of a struggle with the locals. However, many young people, especially college students, speak English, so you will be able to communicate relatively easily.
Those who wish to learn the language have numerous options. Learning Chinese in China is very effective and you can always apply what you learn on your classes in everyday life. It is a great way to experience the local culture and improve your language skills.
Visa
If you want to study in China, you need to get a visa at the Chinese embassy in your home country. In order to apply for visa you must have a valid international passport, apply for admission and receive an offer from a university. You should also have a proof of financial capability in form of a bank account statement showing that you have sufficient amount of money to take care of yourself while studying in China. Please contact the Chinese embassy in your country for a comprehensive list of documents needed for the visa processing.
How to apply for admission
Most universities in China accept online application. All you need do is to search for a university online, locate their web portal and start applying online. You must have your supporting documents ready as these may be needed for upload during the application process. Ensure that you apply on time and send all supporting documents to the school before the application deadline.
