To get a student visa, you will have to apply and be accepted by a University. Once you have secured a place in school, you can start the visa application with the embassy of the country the University is situated. For example, if you received an offer to study in Germany your visa will be proceed by the German embassy in your home country or the country the school is situated.
Some agencies might want to assist you get a visa, but they charge a lot of money.
STUDY VISA REQUIREMENTS
Students applying for visa are usually expected to meet certain requirements before being issued a study visa. In Italy for example, students are usually expected to take entrance exams at a school, have a suitable place to stay and demonstrate that he/she has adequate resources to support his/her study while staying in Italy, usually around 417 Euros per month.
TYPES OF VISA
There are basically three types of students visa, each with its own slightly different set of requirements. For example, students attending an accredited college, university or English language institute will need an F-1 Visa or J-1 visa. J-1 students are usually students that are government sponsored on exchange programme for a semester or year. Students involved in non-academic pursuits at either trade or vocational institutions will need M-1 visa.
DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR VISA PROCESSING
The following documents will be needed before a visa can be issued to a student.
· A passport valid for at least 6 months
· One passport size photograph
· A receipt for the non-refundable visa processing fee
· Transcripts and diploma from institutions you have previously attended
· Documental proof that you or your parents will have enough money to cover tuition and living expenses for the period of your stay
· Documentation that you intend to return to your home country after finishing your course of study
Once you have the documents ready, then you can make an appointment for your visa interview with an embassy or consulate.
WHEN TO APPLY
It takes up to 120 days to prepare and issue visa,. Therefore, in other to make sure you have your visa before your first day of classes, apply as soon as possible.
If you do not receive you visa two to three weeks after your interview, consult your embassy as consulate immediately.
