Cyprus is an island country, situated in the northern corner of the Mediterranean, at what is known as the meeting point of Europe, Asia and Africa, its surrounding countries are Turkey to the north, Greece to the northwest, Lebanon and Syria to the East, Israel and Palestine to the southeast and Egypt to the south. Cyprus is divided into two parts; the Northern Cyprus inhabited by Turkish Cypriots, known as The Republic of Northern Cyprus which illegally declared independence from the southern Cyprus and the Southern Cyprus inhabited by Greek Cypriots. The largest cities in Cyprus are Nicosia (which is the capital city), Limassol, Paphos, Larnaca, Famagusta and Kyrenia. The official languages of Cyprus are Greek and Turkish. There are also minority languages which includes Armenian and Cypriot Arabic.

Schools in Cyprus charge relatively low when compared to other educational hotspots. Tuition fees for international students vary depending on the program (Bachelor’s degree or Masters and Ph.D.) and course of study (the price of studying engineering differs from the cost of studying Accounting), the fees are on the average of €3600-€4000 per academic year. The applicant must submit a certified copy of Higher Secondary School Certificate or Intermediate Certificate or the equivalent, demonstrating that s/he has suitably graduated from secondary school, and must arrange for other significant certified documents, such as transcripts or detailed mark sheets. The academic year consists of two semesters, the Fall Semester (aroundthe beginning of October and finishes in the end of January) and the Spring Semester (starts in the beginning of February and finishes in the beginning of June). Some universities offers shorter but more intensive Summer Sessionswhich begins in the middle of June and finishes in the end of July. Some also offers, a Summer English language Session for students who doesn’t have English as their first language also offered in the middle of June and finishing in the end of August. New students can join in the fall (beginning of October) or Spring semester (beginning of February) or summer session (middle of June) to study regular courses or English language preparatory courses.
Students are required to be on campusesbefore the beginning of the intended semester/session. Each semester or session starts with the student’s enrolment in a number of courses and ends with the final examinations of these courses. The academic calendar gives information on important dates in an academic year, such as when semesters starts and end, enrolment periods, examination weeks and holidays.
