We have surrounded ourselves with every kind of technological invention ever created by the mankind. Be it a TV, calculator, the gadgets that we use to assist us in doing our household chores and even the World Wide Web, all contribute to us becoming lazy and our minds becoming rusted. If it is going to continue like this for long, there will be a time when we would not even lift a finger to send messages through our smart phones. This is how lazy we are expected to become. The term couch potato was non-existent before the invention of TV’s and radios, but now we see a lot of them in every other house. Let’s explore some of the inventions that have resulted in the mankind becoming lazy.
The World Wide Web
No matter how much of a favor this particular technology has done to us, but there are still certain issues that need to be taken care of. Distance education, for instance, is a facility provided to students who cannot attend proper colleges, but this also results in the students losing discipline in their study schedule. They study at their own will, and sometimes even do not study at all due to there being no check and balance system in this particular kind of education. Other than that, plagiarism is a phenomenon that has recently seen a rise due to a lot of students being not interested in hitting the library for research or any kind of assignment. They think of copy pasting as the easy way out.
Laziness here is not just confined to being lazy physically, but mentally as well. In the earlier days, people used to calculate mentally, but after the invention of a calculator, they rely heavily on the usage of calculator for even the basic of calculations.
The gadgets that were invented to be used for our household chores made our lives quite convenient as well as fast. People tend to give more time to their family and friends when these gadgets complete their work within a few hours. These include washing machines, juicers, grinders, food processors, vacuum cleaners, etc. But upon a closer inspection, we also can observe that we have become so dependent on them that if they stop working, we feel helpless and lost. We have become quite lazy as well and there is a rise in the obesity rate observed in the kids and adults alike. But in the earlier days, doing everything on our own made us active as well as fit.
Getting the news and being entertained are some of the main purposes of having a television set as a part of our household. But don’t you think that the couch potatoes at everyone’s home are all thanks to this invention. Especially when it comes to using the remote controls, we are so dependent on having this little piece around while watching TV that once it is out of sight, we feel as if the world has come to an end. One can connect with the real world only by disconnecting from these gadgets once in a while.
