Do you know what a statement of propose is? Well I believe many student that have applied for either an admission or a scholarship must have been asked to prepare a statement of purpose.
Statement of purpose is simply an essay or statement that you make about yourself as you are apply for admission abroad. It tells the admission committee who you are , your motivation, driving vision and how prepared you are to take up your study. Since it carries all the vital information, it has to be properly written in simple and clear English.
Therefore, your statement of purpose should be tailored to your audience. Your focus should be to convince the admission committee that you are qualified to take up the study. It will not be easy as you will have to talk about your grades, motivations, carrier path among other things.
Here are some of the things you should include in your statement of purpose.
v Grades and educational achievement
v Carrier path and employment (if any)
v Motivations or any driving vision
v Projects and research work
v Skills and hobbies

GRADES AND EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT
The admission committee is interested in knowing your educational background before you are given an offer to study, however, you have to write about your education from the earliest to the latest. Talk about the challenges you faced while in school and how you overcame them.
CARRIER PATH AND EMPLOYMENT (if any)
It’s also important your talk about your carrier in your SOP. This only applies to individuals that have worked for some number of years before applying to study abroad. If the work experience is related to the programme you are applying to study, it will increase your chances of getting admitted.
MOTIVATION OR DRIVING VISION
Your statement of purpose cannot be complete without your motivation. You have to explain in at least 5 to 10 lines your motivation or driving vision. Endeavour to use simple and clear English in your explanation.
PROJECT AND RESEARCH WORK
If you have carried out a research work or executed a project, it’s very important that you include it in your SOP. if it is relevant to the programme you are applying to study; it can go a long way in boosting your admission chances.
SKILLS AND HOBBIES
Do not forget to include your skills and hobbies. If you are good at repairing electronic gadgets or creating new things, you could include this in your SOP. The admission committee wants to know everything about you, so you have to include them in your write up. Also, include your hobbies like playing and watching football, swimming, skating, etc.
All these points are very important when writing your statement of purpose.
