College life is indeed one of the most challenging and career molding phases of our young lives. Whether we are completing our Bachelor’s or Master’s program and earning our degrees locally or internationally, it is vital that we get through this so that we may assume bigger responsibilities for our future like getting married, having a family and more.
One of the greatest challenges that college students face is the task of properly utilizing the money that they get from their parents, bank loans and others. Although locally it doesn’t seem that hard but when you’re studying abroad, it is a whole new ballgame. To show students how to more accurately manage their abroad study finances, here’s what they have to do:
- Scholarships
Scholarships are one of the most opt for choices for easing up on students’ money holding worries. Scholarship programs provide students with scholarships which is more or less the financial aid given to further press on with their education. There are several types of scholarships that are awarded to students and they are: Merit-based, need-based, student-specific, college-specific and career-specific.
- Public transport or carpooling
Many student programs abroad provide students with passes to public transportation and the subway. Some students may also receive something of a card that gives them the privileges and means of transportation. There is also the fact that you can hitch a ride with your friends and splitting the fuel money just so you’re not freeloading or mooching of your friends. This tactic is called carpooling.
- Get a part-time job
Getting a part-time job is not difficult at all as long as you do not have to converse on another alien language. Just get help from your foreign peers and faculty members to guide you on this matter. There are dozens of part-time positions that you can acquire such as a tuition teacher, restaurant clerk, a write for companies like Dissertation Corp, a valet, or even babysitting.
- Internships
When looking to acquire some work experience without paying, there is nothing better than contributing your services for interning at some of the most recognizable companies out there. It may not pay you back but not only will be able to work for free you will garner extraordinary points for work experience, network building, cooperating and even be tasked for a few leadership roles. These spectacular achievements will validate and assure your employment chances at the place where you wish to start working and earning.
- Yard sale
This is a common practice especially in western countries. We are not suggesting this to every student out there just to those who feel that there do not need a few of their worn-out, ancient or outdated items any longer. The best advice for students over here is to have a yard sale. You can sell your items at easily affordable price rates seeing as how they are past their prime condition and all. As a matter of fact, since we live in the social media centered paradigm of this generation it would be even better if you sold your items online. Craigslist, Amazon and Ebay are your best options.
