Every year international organisations, governments and institutions award lots of scholarships to aid international students in their study. These scholarships comes in two forms, viz; Partial and full scholarships.
Partial scholarships as the name imply does not cover all the study expenses. In most cases, it covers only living expenses, cost of accommodation and part of the tuition and the scholar will be responsible for the cost of his/her air fare, visa application, part of the tuition and other expenses not covered by the scholarship.
Full scholarship on the other hand covers all the expenses needed for study like, air fare from scholar’s home country, living expenses, accommodation etc. Almost everybody pray to get a full scholarship because it has advantages over partial scholarship. So the question now is, how can one apply for and win a scholarship, be it full or partial? Well its not hard to get a scholarship as most people feel. In this article I’m going to focus on the things you need to do that will ensure that you win a scholarship.
Prepare your essays in advance
.A Scholarship essay is a piece of writing that explains the applicants motivations, career path, education history among other things. This piece of writing tells the scholarship committee how qualified and prepared the applicant is, for the scholarship. However, it has to be properly written, devoid of mistakes. To achieve this, you have to prepare your essays long in advance before you start your scholarship application. And when you have finished writing the essay, give others to read and check for mistakes.
Get all you documents ready!
To ensure that your scholarship application is processed, endeavour to attach or send all required documentations. Its adviseable that you get all these documents ready before you start your application. Documents usually required for scholarship application include but not limited to the following; Scholarship essay, certficates of results and transcripts, reference letters etc.
Search for scholarships
Now that you have all your documents and essay ready, the next thing is to start searching for scholarships. Since almost all scholarships are advertised online, you need to search online, using search engines like google, yahoo etc. You can use keywords like, ”undergraduate scholarship 2013” or ”2013 scholarships for international students”. The search engine will show results relating to your search.
Apply before deadline
When you have searched and found scholarships that you meet their requirements, send your application as soon as possible as applications recieved after deadline are not usually considered.
Apply to many scholarships
You need to apply to as many scholarships as possible, so you can be sure to get one, atleast.
