The University was founded on the 8th of January 1842. First, it was a Polytechnic in 1864, an Institute of technology in 1905 and finally a full-time University in 1986 when it was first called the Delft University of technology. The number of students then was 450 but now she’s host to over 19,000 graduate and undergraduate students consisting of 3,300 scientists and over 2,200 support and management staff amongst others. With 8 faculties and many research institutes Delft University is certainly a school with a proven track record for raising great minds.
The Delft University is 64th best in the world and 2nd in Europe according to the QS rankings. She’s regarded as the 7th best in Europe and 10th best University in Netherlands by US news. According to Academic Ranking of World University (ARWU) she’s rated 151 in the world. She’s also ranked 4th best University in the Netherlands.
Her subject rankings speak volumes as the University is ranked 4th in Architecture, 5th in civil Engineering, 6th in chemical Engineering and 14th in environmental sciences, all according to the QS rankings.
Intended international applicants can apply online and must also register with Studielink before May the 15th.
Applicants must present he’s or her secondary school results which must include mathematics and science and technology subjects for B.sc in Aerospace Engineering.
Proficiency in the Dutch language is a requirement for the undergraduates. Only the Bachelors degree in Aerospace engineering doesn’t require this.
There is a 50 Euros non-refundable fee for application.
All none European Union (EU) applicants must produce evidence of enough financial resources to cater for the first year’s tuition and all living expenses.
Chinese applicants are required to have a NUFFIC certificate.
- All undergraduate applicants are to produce a stamped copy of original diploma with translation, If it’s foreign, a secondary school diploma that is considered equal to the Dutch pre-university diploma.
- Also a proof of language proficiency is required, like TOEFL or IELTS
- Applicants are also required to provide an extensive resume in English language.
Applicants are expected to produce a quality University’s Bachelors degree in a subject related to the intended area of study.
Also a CGPA score of 75 percent is required. Applicant will also have to produce two reference letters in either, English, French, German or Dutch. All Masters Courses are in English so therefore an applicant should have a good command of the language.
An applicant for a Doctorate degree is required to possess a Dutch Masters degree according to the Dutch law. It may be a Master of Science or Arts from a reputable University or higher institute.
Admission for International Students;
International applicants are to produce a photocopy of pages of their passport that show the name, place of birth, date of birth and the expiration date of the passport.
Other basic requirements;
- Applicants are expected to come with a motivational write up of 1000/1500 words clear and relevant in English.
- The language documents to submit are TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge results.
- For Masters Applicants in Aerospace Engineering, you are expected to provide the GRE revised test results.
- Also students are expected to bring a proof of payment slip.

For applicants seeking Bachelors degree at the institute application starts by October the 1st, while the 1st of April is the application deadline for students who have obtained an international secondary school diploma. 1st of May is the deadline for registration in Studielink. Masters applicants are to submit their request for enrollment before July the 1st.
The 1st of February is the deadline for the fall semester and academic year while the 15th of September is the deadline for the spring semester 2018.
