Study MBBS in abroad is a good option for Indian students who couldn’t get a seat in the Indian medical schools. With the help of many overseas educational consultants like Noble Global Education, students have applied for MBBS admission in abroad. By careful examination of the country, university, city, accommodation, food and living expenses many students have selected to study MBBS in abroad. So students went abroad, studied undergraduate MBBS for 6 years and completed it with flying colors. But, what to do next? What are the career options available after studying MBBS from abroad?
Well for starters, students have to decide whether they want to continue studying and pursue post graduate degree in medicine or start clinical practice with MBBS. Even if the student has decided to pursue PG degree, another decision has to be made whether to pursue it abroad again or return to India and pursue it here.
If the student is returning to India, whether for clinical practice or for PG studies, he or she has to go through an eligibility test conducted by Medical Council of India (MCI). This test is conducted by MCI to deem the student eligible to practice in India. Students who wanted to pursue PG in India had to write the eligibility test and entrance test for PG courses. From 2017, MCI has decided to scrap the eligibility test. Indian abroad students now have to go through the PG eligibility test both for PG entrance and for eligibility to practice in India.
If the student has cleared the PG entrance test and secured a good rank, then there a variety of specialization available to study PG medicine. Post graduation courses after mbbs in India are the most pronounced MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery). Duration of the course varies from 2 years to 3 years, depending on the specialization. There are a total of 78 recognized PG degree courses in India. Some of them are:
- MD – General Medicine
- MD – Pharmacology and Therapeutics
- MD – Pathology and Microbiology
- MD – Radiology
- MS – Obstetrics and Gynecology
- MS – Orthopedics
- MS – General Surgery
- MS – ENT
Students can continue to pursue PG medical courses abroad also. If the student wants to pursue PG in US then he/she has to go through United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), which is a three part examination. If you have studied MBBS in abroad, then you can continue PG there itself by applying for PG courses.
For example, if you have MBBS admission in Russia and have completed the 6 years undergraduate medical degree in Russia, you can apply for the post graduate medicine courses (MD and MS) in Russia. Duration of MD and MS in Russia varies from 2 years to 5 years. Since the student would already have experience in managing MBBS fee in Russia, accommodation and living expenses, he/she can manage PG course also with ease.
These are the career options available after studying MBBS in abroad. Both the options of studying PG in India or PG in abroad come with their own advantages and disadvantages. Students have to take an informed and well thought decision for which experienced overseas consultancies like Noble Global Education are always happy to help the students.
