If you are heading to college for the first time, you might feel like packing your whole world with you. As you get yourself prepared for the university or college, remember that the secret to successful college packing lies in not carrying too much stuff. Carry only those which are vital for spending your college days. Here are 6 items which you should consider not packing to college.
Appliances
There are a number of colleges wherein students have the permission to rent appliances like microwaves or mini-fridges. In such cases, the best thing would be to find out whether your roommate already has any of these items. This will ensure that you do not carry the same items because limited space is available. Some colleges even provide a common big screen television. If you are a diehard fan of some shows, opt for relevant membership and watch them on your laptop, rather than carrying a bulky television with you.
Fancy clothes and accessories
Obviously you would not be attending galas during your semester, except for a few. So, if you are carrying party outfits, limit them to one or two. If you are a girl, a couple of business-casual skirts or dresses would be enough. Also, do not burden yourself with a number of accessories like high heels or designer bags. For guys, one formal suit would be enough.
On the day you are moving in, do not bring clothes for the entire year but carefully select the clothes for college. Whenever you are going home during vacations or breaks, go for fresh clothes if required.
Specific holiday related stuff
Whether it is the tiny bits of decorations or the small Christmas trees or the elaborate Halloween costumes, leave them at home. If at all you want them, bring these things temporarily during the festive season. Well, some fancy headband, any door hanging or wall art mike be okay since they do not consume much space. But make sure your roommates do not object to wall or door hangings.
Printer
Many of you will definitely think of bringing the printer all the way to campus to make your job easy. But is it really practical to carry the printer to college? There are high chances that your college will have wireless printing systems or a printing lab. Apart from taking up considerable amount of space, a printer may result in redundant expenses on paper and ink.
Iron & Board
Did you use to iron your clothes very often when you were at home? Even if you did, you will not get so much of time with all the late-night studies, attending normal as well as extra classes and social or extracurricular engagements. Instead of bringing an iron and board, carry wrinkle-free clothing, which will solve the problem of space as well as time. If at all you can’t live without iron clothes, go for a small one.
Books
It indeed pays off to be a book lover when you are in college. But why should you fill the space with your private collection when you can easily avail the same books from the college library? Another great option is to spend some bucks over an e-reader like Kindle or Nook.
Try to differentiate between necessities and fancy while you are packing for college. Carry minimum stuff and enjoy your life at college!
