The Australian Government is financing The International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) program through its department of Education and Training. The program was previously being financed through its department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR).
ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
The program was set up to develop international research linkages with the aim of getting the best international postgraduate students to areas of research strength in Australian higher institutions.
The program is designed to help students to enroll for a postgraduate research qualification in Australia and acquire knowledge and experience with top Australian researchers.
Every year a total of 330 IPRS scholarships are awarded to Australian Higher Education Providers and the duration of the award covers a period of two years for masters by research degree or three years for doctorate by research degree.
The scholarship offers certain benefits such as tuition fees are covered and taken care off as well as health cover costs for recipients of the scholarship and their dependents.
Nationals of all countries except from New Zealand are eligible for the scholarship program
Applicants should be international students
Meet the requirements of acquiring international student’s visa as stated by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship as well as the requirement to obtain and maintain a Student Health Policy from abroad approved by the Commonwealth Government Department of Health and Aging.
Applicants should be interested in studying a course recognized by the provider as one of its areas of research and concentration
Applicants should not have a research qualification considered by the provider to be equal to an Australian Research Doctorate Degree
Applicants should not have a research qualification considered by the provider to be equal to or higher than an Australian Research Masters Degree
Should not have an Australian Agency for International Development scholarship for at least two years before starting the program
Should not be enrolled in a scholarship in which the Australian government makes a major contribution

Scholarship is offered for all research doctorate and research masters programs available at the university
