ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
The Heinrich Boll Foundation every year offers scholarships in all courses to about 1000 undergraduates, graduates and PhD students from different countries around the world who are taking their degree programs at universities of arts (Kunsthochschulen) and universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen) in Germany.
The scholarship will be provided for the period of the student’s undergraduate, masters or doctoral studies.
The scholarship is set up to be awarded to students believed to have excellent academic results, students who are politically and socially active as well as have great interest in core values of the foundation including the following: democracy and human rights, self-determination and justice and ecology and sustainability.
The following requirements are for international students (except EU students) who wish to apply for the scholarship and study in Germany.
Applicants should apply for the scholarship before the commencement of studies so that they will be supported on a long term basis
At the time the scholarship payment commences, students must be enrolled at a well -known and recognized college or university in Germany like Fachhochschulen
For students seeking to enroll for a Masters degree, they should show evidence that they have graduated with a professional qualification
Considering that the workshop for selection including interviews and group discussions will be done in German, applicants will be required to show evidence of their proficiency in the language. There are exceptions as it is possible for interviews to be done in English
Students who are studying for a one year masters degree and were not supported by the foundation should not expect a scholarship
Applicants should show evidence that they have been accepted in institutions of higher education in Germany or an EU country as a doctoral student

The deadline for application is usually twice a year in September and March. For spring session application deadline is March 3 2016
