How to Study Free in Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)

NTNU2Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is one of the schools in Norway operating tuition free education. The University has strong programs in the fields of social sciences, teacher education, engineering the arts and humanities, medicine, architecture and fine art. Students can choose to study in Norwegian or English language. If you want to study in English language, then you must have a good command of English at an academic level and you may need to provide TOEFL/IELTS test scores. In today’s post, I will be talking about studying free in NTNU, cost of living, admission requirement, language requirement, application time and deadline and how to apply for admission.

Cost of living in Norway

The living expenses in Norway for a student is estimated at €900 to €1000. This amount will cover the cost of food, accommodation, books, travels, health care etc for a period of one month. However, if you wish to study in Norwegian University of Science and Technology, you will not have to pay tuition fees but you will need to demonstrate to the Norwegian government that you have enough money available to support yourself during an academic year.

Admission requirement

For undergraduate programs, applicants must have completed a secondary education or high school and are in possession of a valid school leaving certificate which qualifies them for higher education studies in their home country. For postgraduate programs, relevant bachelor’s degree certificate or its equivalent is needed for admission into the school.

Language requirements

For programs taught entirely in English language, applicants must have good command of English at an academic level and may need to provide TOEFL/IELTS test scores. For TOELF internet based test, NTNU requires a minimum score of 90 points and for IELTS, a minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required. For programs taught in Norwegian language, NTNU requires students to be proficient in English as well as Norwegian language.


Application time and deadline

In NTNU, application deadlines vary depending on the study program. For exchange students, the deadline for autumn semester is 1st May and 1st October for Spring semester. For international masters degree students, the deadline is 15th January.
