2016 Japan, United Nations University Scholarships for Developing Country Students

Japan,UN scholarshipsScholarships are being offered by The Japan Foundation for United Nations University (JFUNU) to excellent applicants from developing countries for Master of Science (MSc) programs


The scholarship is meant for students who can show a need for financial support. The program will focus on certain issues such as climate change, building peace, human rights and development.

The scholarship will be awarded for the duration of the program which is usually for two years and comes with some benefits including:

Full tuition fees

A monthly allowance of 150,000 JPY will be given to take care of living expenses for a period of two years.

It should be noted that cost of travel to and from Japan and visa application fees as well as health/accident insurance will be taken care of by the student.

Also 150,000 JPY is what an international student can use for living costs without having dependents in Tokyo, though this depends on the lifestyle of the student.

Institutions participating in the program include United Nations University (UNU), Japan, Institute for Sustainability and Peace (ISP) and other partner universities in Japan.


Scholarship will be awarded for Master of Science (MSc) in Sustainability program


To be eligible for the program, applicants should meet the following requirements

Should be interested in major issues concerning the UN especially those of sustainability

The willingness to take up a career in international areas in private organizations or public institutions

Should have the desire to apply academic research results to policy making as well as help to find solutions to problems of global environment

Have strong passion and desire in sustainability studies

Should have completed a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized university or institution of higher education in a field related to sustainability

Those who hope to graduate and obtain a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent before September 2016 are also eligible to apply

Should have obtained a degree of GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale after a graduating

Should be proficient in English language
